One thing I’m regretting now that I have two kids is my desire to make Baby A be so darn girly and frilly all the time. I went through her clothes and there is absolutely nothing to hand down to Thomas. She has one orange shirt he can wear, but that’s it.
I went so far as to buy her pink socks too, so I can’t even use those with him. So beware, if you have a girl first, don’t be like me. Let her wear some neutral (or neutral-ish) clothes. Otherwise, you’ll be SOL when it comes time to buy clothes for #2.
Susan over at One Year Apart has some fab tips on how to make your kids’ clothes make the transition from Kid #1 to Kid #2.
But the clothes for girls are sooooooooooooooooo cute! How can you resist?!
Don’t worry, I did the same exact thing. I bought Jaedyn a few neutral outfits before ifound out he was going to be a boy. But the same day I found out his sex, I went out and bought something blue. Everything had to be blue. Green? Yellow? White? No way man. Plus blue was already my favorite color.
While I don’t plan to have anymore kids, so I could care less about the color, I do hand down ALL of Jaedyn’s clothes. A lot of my friends had little boys recently and I know it’s not easy being a young parent, so I try to help out where I can. (My plan was to be sending you his clothes that are too small but seems like it’s going to be the other way around!) I checked out the website and the tips were pretty handy. I try to keep his clothes in the best condition possible
Hi Tara! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and linking to my hand-me-down tips. You bring up a great point … you’ll get the most mileage from the tips I featured if you’ve got close siblings of the same gender … unless you go with unisex color choices from the get-go with child #1. The alternative strategy? Let’s learn how to tie dye and disguise that girly pink!!
You know, I thought about that, but both my kids have extremely sensitive skin so I can’t really put anything on them. I have to wash their clothes twice before they wear them, using the weakest detergent possible. It’s insane.
But that’s definitely a good idea. Baby stains are no joke, so your tip about dying or camuflouging in some way is all too useful.
Tara
