Candace Parker, a forward with the WNBA’s L.A. Sparks, has announced that she is expecting, and will have her baby in May, just a month before her second season with the team.
I’m not a sports junkie, and I have to admit that I was a little peeved when my husband would watch her games, but I know this girl can play. Amazing talent, polite and professional in interviews and she’s just…likeable. A true star.
So it’s hard to ignore the grumbling about her pregnancy, as to how it will affect the team. There’s one side that says she should work out her whole pregnancy (which she probably will), pop out that baby and get back to work June 6th, when the season starts. “It’ll be great for the league,” they say.
Then there’s the other side (where you’ll find me) that says, “Please let her handle it however she feels is best.” I know she’s under contract and a pregnancy is different than an injury, but come on!
How do you feel about it? Is the pressure for her to return insane? Or as a professional athlete, should she expect this type of reaction?
I wish they would try to call her contract a breach! lol. I hope she calls me! That would be a lawyers dream case! lol
