“Stress is a result of trying to control the uncontrollable.”
~From Real Simple magazine, February 2009 issue
Seems so simple, but how many of us fail to see the wisdom in this 10-word phrase?
How many times are we banging our heads against the wall trying to change things that are simply beyond our control? How many times do I complain that so-and-so needs to do such-and-such, when I really have no control over what other people do?
The first step to being stress free in 2009 is to accept this fact. Saying the Serenity Prayer when faced with troubling situations that are beyond your control can be a comforting habit:
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things that I can and the wisdom to know the difference. “
So tell me, readers: What are you doing to reduce the amount of stress in your life?
taking lexapro
going to gym
having dates with hubby
getting more organized
or at least trying all the above
I really needed to read this today. Thank you and I think I feel the stress fading away.
