Our Journey Home: Take Two

So…after falling in love with a house that seemed to be perfect for our family, we had to back out of the contract after the horrendous home inspection.

Here’s the old house:

Cute, right? Man, I loved everything about this house. It just felt so…right.

But we kept looking and I’ve fallen in love with another house. Even more than the first one. I’m beginning to feel like a house slut.

We just put in an offer on house #2, so keep your fingers crossed that the sellers accept! Perhaps by the time you read this, we’ll already have a house!

Takeaway tip: Ask your realtor to pull comps for you, to look at comparable houses in the area to see how much they are listed for. The second house we put in an offer on is priced about $15,000 above other homes in the area, so we didn’t feel bad starting with a lower offer.

Up next: Negotiating price with the sellers.

  1. oh, that house is so freakin’ cute!! but hey, i can’t wait to see the second one if you love it more.

  2. Good luck, Tara! But as a realtor myself, I can safely tell you NOT TO WORRY! The bid that gets accepted, will be for the house you and your family are supposed to be in; BELIEVE IT!! And yes, your realtor should definitely be pulling comps for properties within a 2 mile radius to justify your offer and to prepare to counteroffer if necessary. Also, (sorry, I’m on a roll), you SHOULD NOT be paying closing costs in this market, so be sure to fight for that.

Keep me posted, I’ll send out an extra prayer for ya!

  3. Oh that was a cute house. Too bad it had all those problems. The next one will be all that!
