When I read about a young pregnant woman, Latonya Bowman, who was set on fire and shot by someone who obviously didn’t want her to live and have that baby, I held my breath to hear if she survived.
She did. And she just gave birth.
This is so horrific that I struggled to find the words to write about it.
First I want to say that Latonya, 22, is a survivor in every sense of the word. She survived being abducted, doused with lighter fluid, set on fire and then being shot twice. She played dead to give herself a chance to survive.
Her ex-boyfriend and his roommate, both 22, have been arrested as part of the plot to kill her. He has two kids with other women, but apparently a third was going to send him over the edge.
It is my prayer that every young mother who is pregnant finds nothing but support. In this case, it is obviously the furthest thing from support you can imagine. I’m at a loss for words here. I pray that the mother recovers fully and gets serious counseling to process what happened to her. I also hope that her relationship with the new baby is as solid as can be, as one can only imagine how you might struggle to bond with a child whose father just tried to kill you over, and while you’re recovering from the attack.
YML family, please keep this woman and her baby in your thoughts and prayers. I don’t often talk about stories like this, but it touched me because we never know what can happen when we see those lines on a pregnancy test.
