Do We Need Another Show About Teen Moms? Maybe

I have high hopes for TLC’s new show, High School Moms. On the surface, no, I don’t think we need yet another series chronicling the ups and downs of teenage mothers, particularly if the show is for entertainment.

But I’m for it, because this show follows the lives of girls at Denver’s Florence Crittenton High School. In the first video below, they interview Megan Singleton, who I met in D.C. a few years ago. She was a teen mom herself and now she’s a nurse at the high school, helping other young mothers know they can make it.

A few months ago, I argued that MTV needs to stop while they’re ahead. I was tired of the same ol’ storylines on Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant. If MTV couldn’t find a new angle (one that was hopefully much less sensational and more supportive), then I suggested its current crop of girls be their last.

I haven’t yet seen this show but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it can show these women in a much better light and I’m rooting for all of them to succeed like crazy. After all, the baby is already here or they are already pregnant. I’d much rather watch them get their education. Check out the trailer (second video) below and let me know what you think.

High School Moms airs on Sundays at 10 pm on TLC.

  1. Even though I have’t seen the other show, I do hope that this new show tries showing things from a positive point of view. To let girls know that their lives are not over, and they can still make it to their dreams. Let us know how the show is when it airs.

  2. I agree that I don’t really think there is a need for another teen mom show (despite the fact that I was one). MTV really ruined my hopes of watching “reality” teen mom shows so I’m not sure if I would take the time to watch this one. Let us know what you think…maybe you can convince those that are unsure…
