Welcome to the NEW Young Mommy Life? Like it? I do. HUGE thanks to Mignon from LoveMignon Designs for hooking me up! Her work is incredible!
Every year around this time, I roll out a self-care challenge to help all the moms who stop by find time to “reset” their lives and get back on top of the list! In 2012, we had more moms than ever participate and I’m thrilled to have the 2013 version all queued up and ready to go.
The purpose of this challenge is to get back to the woman underneath the titles of “Mom,” “Wife/Girlfriend,” “Sister,” “Friend,” or “Employee.” Who are you, on a most basic level, and are you in touch with that woman on a regular basis? Have you gotten so bogged down in the day-to-day tasks for running a household and you’ve neglected to take care of yourself? I know from time to time I have to push that good ol’ reset button and remember how important I am to my family. If I’m running on fumes, not eating right, not sleeping enough, dragging through the days with no energy to give myself, how on earth can I expect to be a good mother/wife/sister/friend/whatever other label you have?
The truth is, you’re not going to be 100% for anyone else until you’re 100% with yourself.
Come back to the blog each day for a different challenge. Complete them all and give yourself a pat on the back for taking the first step to feeling like YOU again.
This year there’s an added bonus: Comment on each post and be entered to win a $25 Visa gift card!
Simple enough, right? Here’s the first challenge:
So Day 1: Toss the clothes from your clothes are are ill-fitting, faded, old, or simply not flattering. Chances are, you probably already know which items you need to separate.
This is going to leave me with about 60% of my current wardrobe, but you know what? I need to stop thinking of “quantity” and think in terms of quality. There’s a cute white sweater with a hole under the armpit that I keep saying I’ll sew up one day but I don’t even know how to sew right now. So that has to get out of my drawer to make room for clothes I actually wear.
Are you in for this year’s challenge? Will Day 1 be hard to complete?
LOVING the new site! And this challenge is so on point. Thank you for inspiring us all to be our best selves!
My entire wardrobe was unflattering after baby no. 2 :/ To solve that problem I created a lookbook for myself and have begun to shop for pieces to create a new closet just for me and my new body.
Wait, you want me to take OUT clothing?! LOL! Actually, I’m in the midst of doing this, so I’m finally ahead of the game for once! YES! Looking forward to completing this challenge this year!
I’m going to try really hard not to cry after I do this… but I guess this will be the wakeup call that I need in order to actually shop for myself.
This is a much needed challenge for me. Baby number 2nis over a year and I’m still trying to hold on to clothes.
I’m excited about this challenge. Allof my 2013 goals/resolutions were revolved around the “Getting Back to Me” theme. I was cleaning out my closet this weekend so today’s challenge will be easy to complete.
Thanks for the motivation to get us back to our true selves, Tara! This is a real challenge for me, because I feel as if I’ll have nothing to wear once I’m done (especially now that I’m 7 months pregnant). Over the past few weeks I’ve thrown away things I haven’t worn in years, though, so maybe this will go smoother than expected.
Soooooo I guess your telling me I probably should throw away the shirt I am literally wearing right now since I have been wearing it since the 10th grade and it has a whole in the back …. LOL ….
I can’t even begin to tell you when the last time I bought myself something was above and beyond absolutely needing it for something specific …. I need to throw away my ENTIRE closet and start over ….
@Tamaira – Maybe I need to pay closer attention but I never thought you needed a wardrobe overhaul!
Tara – I pull it off well since for the past 4 years I have worn a uniform to work and I very very rarely actually go anywhere to take pictures ….. For the summer I have the same exact shirt and cargo pants in about 10 colors and for the winter I wear the exact same pair of jeans (4 shades) with random church shirts …. LMAO!!!
I have 3 dresses (2 black) so I rotate them to events …. DONT JUDGE ME!!! ROTFLMAO!!!
@Tamaira – I’m about to go through my closet now – pray for me!!
Wonderful new site! So simple, bright and pretty.
I’m definitely up for this challenge! My clothes don’t even fit into my dresser any more, and I doubt I even where two thirds of them. This is actually part of one of my new year’s resolutions.
Great challenge so far!
What’s funny is right before the new year as I was doing my ‘hell no will I bring in the new year with a dirty room’ cleaning I gave away just about ALL of my heels to my sisters. I love heels but they are not practical in my life right now and it felt great!
I thought I was late, but it seems as though I’m not since I’ve gotten rid of those clothes. Lol!
And I ADORE the look of the blog..
Im joining the challenge a little late, and I am already both excited and intimidated! I have the hardest time ridding my closet of clothes. What if it fits one day? What if I can’t find it again? What if I could use it for Halloween or even painting the house one day?
I hold on to old, tired clothes yet always find myself wearing the same tired outfits. I’m always saving the “good” stuff for a special occasion, yet I need to make that special occasion TODAY. Maybe if I only wear items that feel good and look good I can learn I appreciate my body. I HAVE to stop staring in the mirror, saying, “I hate my body”.
Ay, I’m procrastinating RIGHT now…. Wish me luck!
I do that too! In clearing out my closet, it was mostly clearing out clothes that don’t fit. If I lost 10-15 pounds, they’d be perfect. So I think to myself, “Well, if I get serious about it, I could lose 15 pounds in the next couple months.” But that has been doing on for three years now. I need to lose the weight and THEN worry about what I’m going to wear. In the meantime, those clothes must go! 😉
Best of luck to you!!!
Lol, my situation and thought process EXACTLY!
Thanks for this opportunity and all your time and thoughtfulness :).
I’m so exited because I so need this refresher and Im going to share it with my FB followers. Thanks!
This is so hard for me. I cleaned the closet out at the end of 2012 but I still have a million things in there. I will be doing round two this weekend.
I do this a few times a year and give the unflattering ones to my younger sisters and Goodwill. What I really need to start doing, is work on updating my staples and building around them so I don’t end up with so many clothes that I give away! =)
I actually just did this right before the end of 2012. I decided, it’s time for the clothes that don’t fit and that I will probably never wear again to go. And when I was all done, I ended up with 11 grocery bags full of clothes. If you ask me, I probably had way too many clothes if that’s the case.
