Back-To-School Giveaway With General Mills and Box Tops

By now, I think most of us have our kids back in school. We’ve picked out the first-day-of-school clothes, the new bookbags and are hopefully getting back in the swing of things. One activity I’m looking forward to getting involved with the Box Tops collection at my kids’ new school. If you recall, I was the coordinator at their old school and it helped me feel like a more involved parent.

Now my kids’ school has a very involved Box Tops group and I’ll be doing my part to increase their earnings from year to year. Here’s a few tips I learned during my time as coordinator and what I’ll be putting into practice this year:

• Collection sheets work, especially in the younger grades. Of course, this may vary from school to school, but I was surprised by how simply sending home collection sheets in the Friday folder would generate an average of $5 per student. 
• Reminders are crucial! We’d put reminders in our weekly newsletter so Box Tops wouldn’t slip from top of mind. We’re all so busy that it’s easy to forget to either clip the coupons or send them in to the school before they expire.
• Make it fun. We had a few contests to see which classroom would win a pizza party or an ice cream. It was always fun to go to each classroom and collect the coupons and see how much everyone wanted to win.
• Encourage people to go online. The Box Tops Marketplace allows you to shop at your favorite online retailers (places like Target, Walmart, and Babies ‘R’ Us) and earn Box Tops for your school. (More on this in a later post!)
