When I started this blog back in 2008, there were few places young moms could turn to find support, information and encouragement. But now, we’re not waiting around for others to build these spaces for us—we’re doing it ourselves. Here’s three new books for young parents by three of my favorite people! The summaries are in their own words. Please purchase at least one – or all three!
Single Mother by Circumstance, Single Parent By Choice
by Tiffany Mack (www.tiffanymack.com)
I decided that being a single mother was a product of my circumstance and the definition of my marital status, not my parenting status. I began to seek other people who would fill in the gaps. Love and nurturing can come in different forms, and from different people.
My journey through parenthood is not complete, however as my children grow, my role in their lives changes. There were, and still are, things my children need to experience – some of them, I am not equipped to share. I make room for that in my parenting, by inviting others to step into a parenting role when I cannot. The strategies I share are from my own experiences as a single mother, not a single parent.
When Baby Becomes Big Sibling: Thriving through the transitions that come when adding another baby to your family
by Paula Rollo (www.beautythroughimperfection.com)
It’s a huge transition going from one baby to two (or more!). It can be a challenge to prepare your toddler, especially if he or she is really quite young. This book is specifically helpful for moms with toddlers who are becoming big siblings for the first time.
Tiny Blue Lines: Reclaiming Your Life, Preparing for Your Baby, and Moving Forward with Faith in an Unplanned Pregnancy
by Chaunie Marie Brusie (www.tinybluelines.com)
Struggling with the difficult emotions, stigmas, and decisions surrounding an unplanned pregnancy, I searched for an inspirational and practical book directed towards women like me, but found nothing. Non-fiction books in the market focused on older mothers as well as teenage mothers, with a noticeable absence on the college-aged mother. Tiny Blue Lines is the first book of its kind to reach out specifically to the one-million college-aged woman who have unplanned pregnancies each year in the United States.
Thanks for sharing my book, Tara!
