Young Moms Don’t Breastfeed? Share Your Breastfeeding Story

In the process of doing research for a recent article about breastfeeding, I discovered some stats about young mothers' being the least likely to breastfeed. Only 43% of those under 20 were breastfeeders, compared to 75% of those 30 and up. I have to admit: If it wasn't for my mother's insistence that I breastfeed and that I prepare myself for all that comes with it, I probably would have given … [Continue reading...]

Goal Diggin’: My Goals For The Rest Of 2012

I am still on a high from the Olympics and seeing all the young moms REPRESENT like they meant it! Too awesome for words. I devoured the coverage like a fiend and when I got to Allyson Felix's Facebook page, this photo stopped me in my tracks. I love how they work hard for such an short event. Hours of training for a 30-second (and in some cases, shorter) race. Insanity. It got me thinking … [Continue reading...]

Monday Morning Inspiration: Who Are You Besides A Mom?

My mother is one of the most caring women I know. She gives and gives and gives of herself without complaint and has done so my whole life. For the past nine years, she has worked two jobs, sleeping less than four hours a day, to help provide for our family. She has given her all to be a great mother. But now that we are all out of the house for the most part, she is still in hardcore "mom" … [Continue reading...]

{YML Voices} How I Make Being A Stay-At-Home Mom Work For Me

One of the most popular articles on the blog is the "I Hate Being A Stay-At-Home Mom" post from 2010. Even two years later people keep chiming in on why being at home is either a) the greatest thing that has ever happened to them or b) the most soul-sucking form of thankless work on the planet. I got a loooong comment from Victoria and asked her if I could share it with you. She's been both a … [Continue reading...]

Why Are Mommy Bloggers So Young? (‘Cause We’re All In This Together)

I just read a post from the Grown and Flown blog, where they discuss parenting from the other side, when you've got an empty nest or close to it. Their post, "Why Are Mommy Bloggers So Young, Clever and Inexperienced?" caught my eye because while I don't think I know it all, I don't consider myself "inexperienced." So I wanted to see what they had to say: ...is taking parenting advice from a … [Continue reading...]

Changing #WhatAYoungMomLooksLike One Tweet At A Time

I majored in magazine journalism in undergrad because I love telling stories. I love talking to people and hearing what they've been through and then using that example as a way to inspire others. I'm not working for a glossy magazine now, but I'm doing what I love and I've found my calling working … [Continue reading...]

Live-Blogging My Reaction To The NY Times Piece – A Man’s Perspective On Extended Breastfeeding

Women are all in an uproar about the fact that James Braly, a brave, albeit a little dumb, husband and dad who wrote an essay lamenting the fact that his wife's decision to continue breastfeeding their 5-year-old is interfering with his sexy times with his wife. I figured I'd live blog my reaction to the article's main WTFreak moments. Let's begin. NY Times quotes in italics, my thoughts in … [Continue reading...]

Get Off The Computer And Go Outside!

I could be talking to myself as much as I'm talking to my kids but that's neither here nor there. For Christmas 2010, my mom and dad bought me an iPad. I had been hinting that I wanted one, half-jokingly, 'cause I didn't really think my parents would buy me one. Ever … [Continue reading...]
