No Mom Jeans: Top 10 Young Mommy Essentials – Part 2

Ready to finish up the list? Go here for numbers 1-5.

6. A great pair of fitted jeans. I just crossed this one off my list this past weekend. Went shopping at Old Navy, saw a pair of jeans that looked like they might fit, slipped them on in the dressing room and hot damn! They fit! This is more miraculous than it sounds, folks. I’ve got an odd body type. Big boobs, big hips, no butt, thick thighs, thicker-than-I’d-like belly, skinny calves. And I’m under five feet tall. As a result, I usually stick with wide leg jeans in dark colors to make myself look taller/slimmer. But these “Sweetheart” jeans? Heaven without even trying.

7. A great bra. I just wrote about this one and you all could feel the pain on this. Finding a great, supportive bra is pretty much like trying to find a black person who DIDN’T vote for Obama. They’re out there, but few and far in between.

8. Sexy pajamas. I usually wear one of my Obama shirts to bed and some lounge pants. BOR-ing. And not hot. I’ve never been one of those chicks who can look sexy in her man’s clothes (I just look like a little girl playing dress-up in her daddy’s closet…).

9. A decent planner. I know most of these are fashion-related, but every young mommy has got to be aware of how she spends her days and nights. Gotta know what’s next so you can be ready. I just picked up a wonderful Franklin Covey planner that has been saving my tail lately.

10. One accessory that’s uniquely you. I like big earrings. That’s my thing. If I had the money, I’d buy up every hoop earring from here to Chicago. Love ’em.

So let me know: What’d I miss? What would you add to the list?

GREAT LIST. I have, at one point or another, tried to get all of the items you’ve listed. Funnily enough, I too got lucky with old navy jeans(with me it’: tiny waist, full hips, no butt, skinny legs). They had a denim sale a few weeks back and I scooped up a bunch for a mere 19.95/ea. Unfortunately, I am still working on the sexy pjs too. I have a few cotton shifts from Aerie that my hubby likes (definite upgrade from me using his tshirts). As for the fragrance, I think the concept is great, but I could never be pinned down to one scent. I tend to choose my fragrance of the day to match how I feel. Why settle for one when you can have it all in that department??

  2. Love this list! I feel you on those editor pants in part 1! They are literally perfect in every way. I’d add a couple and say:

    11) Cute flats for casual everyday wear, or grocery store runs because sneakers make me feel kiddy; flats with cute jeans and a cute scarf with a basic tee make me feel like a hip young mommy.
    12) Clear nail polish or one of those buffer nail files because really who has time for a manicure and with dishes its usually a waste!

  3. Your list is fantastic. I completely agree with all of the essentials that you mentioned. Although I’m not yet a mommy – still a few weeks to go!! – I have a suggestion. My personal essential BLUSH.

It is definitely my go to item. Even with no other makeup, a little blush goes a long way in looking fresh, awake, pulled together. With all complexions. Don’t underestimate the power.

  4. Ha! We have the SAME body type! I gotta second those Sweetheart jeans… the Diva is NOT our friend!

    Great list!

  5. You short girls always have the va voom!

Ok, let’s talk about this bra thing. I’m breastfeeding and my baby likes to pull and tug at my bras while she is feeding. As a result, the, you know, sometimes play peek-a-boo when I don’t know it, and anyways I forgot my point. Mommy brain. Dang!

@ Humps – Hmmm. Blush…didn’t even think of it! I’m usually a fresh-faced gal (just a good washing and a thin layer of pure cocoa butter…makes me feel so old-school), so I didn’t think to add makeup to the list. BUT as I get older I’m thinking more about makeup and how to best present myself so I might have to add some blush to my routine. Thanks for the tip! And hurry up and have the baby! I bet you he/she is going to be so cute!!!

@ Ashley – Oh, I thought I was the only one trying to get out of wearing sneakers! (Am I really Midwestern ’cause I call ’em tennis shoes? Oh well.) I’ve bought all these flats for summer because I wanted to feel more like a grown up and now I only wear my tennis shoes (hehe) if I’m working out (which, so sadly, is never). I need to step up my nail game because they are usually looking so rough. One day I suppose…

@Kaye – Ooh, we hit the same sale! I think mine were $20 too. I wish they had more pairs. As far as the fragrance goes, I switch it up a bit too, but when it comes to certain events, I like to smell like “me.” Does that make sense?
